Financial Assistance Scholarships

Generously funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Chater Masonic Scholarship Fund, Sam Gellman and Suzanne Siu, 3 scholarship schemes were set up respectively to offer up to full scholarship to students with financial needs, allowing them to join AFS Year Exchange Program – A life-changing experience.

Eligibility

  • Applicant should first apply and be selected for AFS Year Exchange Program
  • Applicant should be a Hong Kong student aged 15-18.5
  • Applicant should be physically and mentally healthy
  • Applicant should be academically sound
  • Applicant should be genuinely interested in intercultural learning
  • Applicant should be a recipient of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) or School Textbook Assistance (TA) or Working Family Allowance (WFA)

Corporate Scholarships

The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the Hong Kong and China Gas CompanySun Hung Kai Properties, Kerry Holdings set up their own scholarship schemes to offer full scholarships to their employee children, allowing them to join AFS overseas exchange programs.

Asia KAKEHASHI Project

The Japanese government started this 5-year program in 2017 to provide full scholarships for Asian high school students studying Japanese to live in Japan for 10 months. AFS Japan was appointed to implement the project in collaboration with AFS partner organizations and NGOs in Asia from 2018 to 2022.

The application for 2021-22 has been closed. Details for future program are still to be confirmed.
