They left Italy on Sunday, after a year spent in Ravenna, deepening their Italian studies, attending a year of high school here and each living in a Ravenna family, which hosted them in all respects. Intercultura (AFS Italy) is this, and it has returned to being so in this “new normal” following the Covid health emergency. Tiffany and Eline, 17, one from Hong Kong and the other from Norway, marked the restart for the Local Intercultura (AFS Italy) capter in Ravenna. In the city it was established in 2011 and since then it has hosted 28 foreign students with voluntary Ravenna families and schools that have opened their doors to the intercultural world. And this meant that 85 students from Ravenna were selected to participate in study programs abroad.

E questo ha fatto sì che siano stati selezionati 85 studenti ravennati per partecipare a programmi di studio all’estero.
Attraverso questo programma sono giunti a Ravenna ragazzi da Argentina, Australia, Canada, Cina, Danimarca, Finlandia, Francia, Germania, Hong Kong, Honduras, Irlanda, Messico, Norvegia, Russia, Svizzera, Stati Uniti, Thailandia, Turchia. «La nostra comunità – spiega Giorgia Cavallaro, responsabile ospitalità di Intercultura Ravenna – negli ultimi anni ne ha beneficiato enormemente, a livello di impatto sociale, sia grazie alle famiglie che hanno aperto la loro casa ad uno studente straniero ma anche grazie ai nostri ragazzi all’estero che, scegliendo di intraprendere questo percorso educativo, hanno raccolto la sfida di vivere un’esperienza formativa che li aiuterà a diventare la prossima generazione di innovatori. A partire dai nostri studenti inviati e ospitati, fino alle loro famiglie, alle loro scuole, alle loro comunità, i programmi di Intercultura cambiano la vita delle persone coinvolte». E Silvia Travaglini, che assieme a suo marito e alle due figlie ha ospitato Tiffany, domenica ripartita per Hong Kong, lo conferma in pieno: «Per mia figlia Chiara frequentare un anno scolastico con una ragazza come Tiffany, che parla cinese e inglese da madrelingua, è stato molto formativo. Tiffany invece ha avuto a disposizione un’insegnante tutor, che le ha consentito di far crescere il suo livello di italiano. Il tutto dopo una fase formativa per noi come famiglia, che ha compreso una fase online e una dal vivo». E ora c’è la voglia di proseguire: «Rimarremo tutti volontari di Intercultura conclude Silvia. È stato un motivo di crescita per tutti, in senso culturale ma soprattutto umano. Un’esperienza meravigliosa»
