Director / Manager of Communications and Engagement

AFS Intercultural Exchanges is the Hong Kong partner of a global non-profit organization founded in 1947 and operating in nearly 60 countries to provide intercultural learning. Every year AFS Hong Kong hosts and sends some 200 participants on its flagship year-long homestay exchange for secondary students. Although staff-run, AFS relies on a global network of tens of thousands of alumni, families, and other volunteers to deliver the AFS experience, which has transformed the lives of 500,000 participants for 70 years.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director / Manager of Communications and Engagement will:

  • Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness of AFS
  • Build network and establish rapport with media, and facilitate press coverage of AFS Hong Kong
  • Increase use of social media as a key communication channel
  • Assist the ED and board members in engaging the various stakeholders, including but not limited to corporate donors, educational institutions, government officials, other community groups and NGOs, and AFS alumni
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Development Officer and volunteers to execute AFS alumni campaigns and events
  • Work with external contractors to manage projects that impact the organization’s brand and reputation
  • Other day-to-day tasks: produce publications and marketing collaterals; maintain AFS Hong Kong database; manage AFS Hong Kong web site and other online platforms; engage with AFS alumni
  • Work with the Board of Directors’ Communication Committee to manage and execute AFS Hong Kong branding and profile-raising strategy to good effect

Requirements:

  • Degree holder in Communications, Marketing, or relevant discipline is an advantage
  • A minimum of five years working experience in marketing / communications or school alumni / external relations field
  • Knowledge of online (e.g. SEM, social media, etc.) and offline marketing channels
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; proficient in both English & Chinese
  • Interest and passion for international education
  • Strategic thinker with an ability to put high-level ideas into practice
  • Dynamic, creative, digital native and a self-starter
  • Independent and details-oriented
  • Good team player with positive work attitude and well-organized

Volunteer Development Coordinator

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Volunteer Development Coordinator will:

  • Be responsible for the growth and development of volunteer teams
  • Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of the organization, its mission, its participants, its programs and roles and responsibilities of volunteers
  • Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures which guide volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization
  • Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions
  • Establish and implement a process for evaluating contribution of individual volunteers
  • Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize contribution of volunteers to the organization
  • Develop and administer forms and records to document volunteer activities
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit volunteers with right skills
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Communication and Engagement to execute AFS alumni campaigns and events
  • Carry out tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and / or his delegates
  • Coordinate and attend volunteer meetings and events, which at times may be on weeknights or weekends, outside of regular office hours

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years working experience in NGOs, social services, training and development, education, customer service, and/or a community manager role
  • Proficient in both English and Chinese
  • An outgoing personality, with excellent listening skills and high empathy
  • A community builder
  • Passion for social impact and international education
  • Independent and details-oriented
  • Good team player with positive work attitude
  • Able to organize and execute multiple simultaneous projects
