Executive Director

AFS Intercultural Exchanges is the Hong Kong partner of a global non-profit organization founded in 1947 and operating in nearly 60 countries to provide intercultural learning. Every year AFS Hong Kong hosts and sends some 200 participants on its flagship year-long homestay exchange for secondary students. Although staff-run, AFS relies on a global network of tens of thousands of alumni, families, and other volunteers to deliver the AFS experience, which has transformed the lives of 500,000 participants for 70 years.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chair of the Board, you will:

⦁ Provide strong leadership and effective management to ensure high standards of program provision in line with the AFS mission and history;
⦁ Refine the vision, create the future strategy, and lay out pathways to take AFS Hong Kong to the next level of success and prominence in Hong Kong;
⦁ Develop methods for supporting innovation and change in alignment with future strategy of AFS;
⦁ Contribute to the long-term financial viability of AFS Hong Kong;
⦁ Maintain key relationships with AFS International and AFS partners around the world;
⦁ Collaborate closely with local schools and key stakeholders;
⦁ Build donor relationships and lead fundraising activities;
⦁ Manage and inspire local staff and
⦁ Committed to working with a team of dedicated volunteers and ensure success of the volunteer journey.

Requirements:
⦁ University or MBA graduate, with a successful track record of working within a highly-collaborative and growth-oriented organization;
⦁ A minimum of ten years’ management experience in fundraising, marketing, business development, financial oversight and office administration;
⦁ Demonstrates passion in working with youth, volunteers and educators;
⦁ An excellent oral and written communicator, with the ability to mediate across cultures and in a conflict situation;
⦁ English required and Cantonese a distinct advantage;
⦁ Knowledge of Hong Kong’s education system and prior working experience with an NGO or the education sector helpful.

Communications and Engagement Manager

Although staff-run, AFS relies on a global network of tens of thousands of alumni, families, and other volunteers to deliver the AFS experience, which has transformed lives of more than 500,000 participants over 60 years.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications and Engagement Manager will: 

  • Develop strategies to raise awareness of AFS
  • Build network and establish rapport with media, and facilitate press coverage of AFS Hong Kong
  • Increase use of social media as a key communication channel
  • Assist the ED and board members in engaging the various stakeholders, including but not limited to corporate donors, educational institutions, government officials and other community groups and NGOs
  • Work with external contractors to manage projects that impact the organization’s brand and reputation
  • Other day-to-day tasks: produce publications and marketing collaterals; maintain AFS Hong Kong database; Manage AFS Hong Kong web site and other online platforms
  • Work with the Board of Directors’ Communication Committee to manage and execute AFS Hong Kong branding and profile-raising strategy to good effect

Requirements

  • Degree holder in communications, marketing, journalism or relevant discipline is an advantage
  • A minimum of seven years working experience in marketing field
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; proficient in both English & Chinese
  • Interest and passion for international education
  • Dynamic, creative, digital native and a self-starter
  • Independent and details-oriented
  • Good team player with positive work attitude and well-organized
